Welcome to Human Resource Management in Public Safety Communications. This course will give you an introduction to and an overview of the field of Human Resources in the public sector.

Assignments:
(200 points total possible) –Assignments are each 20 points. These may be downloaded from the web page at http://www.iepjsu.com/pst323/. Assignments are due by Friday at 11:00 p.m. CST of each week. See syllabus to see if assignment is to be emailed to Instructor or posted to the Discussion Board.

Discussion Board:
Multiple topics for discussion from the chapter(s) will be posted weekly. Participation is expected. Each discussion board topic has a potential value of 10 points each. Discussion is expected to be interactive and within the week that the chapters are assigned. You may initiate an applicable discussion topic as well by starting a link.

Chat Room:
We will have live chat sessions each week on Wednesday night at 8:00 pm CST. Sessions will last just under an hour. We will NOT have chat sessions during weeks that we do not have chapters assigned. While chats are not mandatory, they are for your benefit. I do chat sessions to enhance the application or to bring the material to life. For those not able to make a session, I will post the transcript of the chat to the discussion board to aid in studying the materials. Please note, that in order to have a transcript of the session, I must have people to chat with.

Published by South-Western, a division of Thomson Learning. ISBN: 0-324-06156-0 This book represents a unique approach to human resource management that addresses two important needs. First, the book answers the need for a practical guide for local government HR management. The authors detail applications and techniques required in this working environment. Second, the book answers the need for an instructional text that accurately presents the local government HR manager's role and everyday activities.

Exams:

The exams will consist of a mix from any of the following question types: fill-in-the-blank, matching, true/false, multiple choice, short answer, and essay questions. Exams must be taken in the presence of an approved proctor. No outside assistance, notes, books, etc. may be used during the exam.
