PST 222C
Handling of a Hazardous Materials Event
WELCOME
Course Overview
The format of this course has been developed to facilitate learning based on the student’s initiative and participation. The importance of communicating factual information to personnel responding to and involved at a hazmat scene is proven daily. This information can determine the difference between success and failure. In Handling of a Hazardous Materials Event we will allow participants to be fully involved in the learning process – not only in the process of communications but also in the determination of the information that needs to be communicated.
Each week of the course will follow a similar format. At the beginning of each week, students will obtain their assignments from the PST 222C course site. In addition to the required course text reading assignment, students are encouraged to use other materials they currently have or find that relate to the week’s topic. Please, when possible, electronically forward this information to the instructor. An e-mail address for this purpose will be furnished.
Each student should submit their assigned material and be prepared to address each of the discussion questions. Students are encouraged to go to the discussion board and input thoughts they have on the questions and post questions concerning the assignments.
As many students work varying schedules, there will be no weekly on-line session that is mandatory and therefore is not graded. It is simply a time when the instructor will be on-line (please refer to the instructor’s office hours).
Specific questions may be sent directly to the instructor via e-mail at any time. Answers to these questions will be returned directly to the student but the instructor, at their discretion, retains the right to distribute pertinent information from these to the entire class. Weekly assignments, midterm and final exams will be administered during the course.
