FOR TTY DEVICES


Since it is not practical to spell out many words on a TTY device, telecommunicators use standard abbreviations. These are shortened versions of the actual words. In order to communicate this way, much practice is needed. Below are some of these abbreviations:

“GA” tells the person to whom you are talking that it is their turn to type.

“QQ” is the same as a question mark. Type QQ when you ask a question.

“SKSK” means “Stop Keying”. Type SK to end a conversation. When you read SK, type SKSK to confirm a conversation’s end.

GA or SK means, “do you have anything else to say? I’m have finished.” This gives the other party the choice to either continue or to end a conversation.


ASSIGNMENT: Type two letters, one job-related and the other personal, using as many abbreviations from the above list as possible.
