This week’s discussion board
assignment is to answer the following question: What are some policies or
techniques we could implement on the job that would help us recognize the
influence of the Stockholm Syndrome? Discuss the influence from the standpoint
of hostages as well as negotiators.

A hostage
has been released by the hostage taker after fifteen hours of captivity. This
hostage has made numerous attempts to return to the hostage situation, has
begged the police to “let the poor man alone,” and has refused to provide
any intelligence to the police for fear that the police will harm the hostage
taker. You have been asked to speak
to the ex-hostage. What kind of things might you say to him to help break the
Stockholm Syndrome?
