PST-321 ASSIGNMENTS,
WEEK THREE
Discussion Board
Do the following exercise and post your response on
the discussion board.
You are negotiating with an individual who has
taken his wife hostage at their home. He
is a former Navy Seal and is armed with various weapons, ranging from a knife to
what appears to be an automatic weapon (others possibly).
From investigators involved in the incident you learn that the subject
wounded a co-worker at his wife’s job earlier that week and litigation is
pending. This subject has some
demands. He has requested that you
bring the wife’s boss to the house and exchange him for the woman.
In exchange for this he agrees to escort his wife out on their front lawn
(un-armed) and in full view of the police to do the exchange.
He will release his wife and only wants to talk to her boss for five
minutes. He will then surrender to
police. The boss is an ex-cop and
has agreed to assist in any way that he can. During
questioning of the boss investigators determine that the relationship between
the suspect’s wife and the boss is professional only and that the boss has
never even spoken to the woman outside of the office because, “quite frankly,
I don’t really like the woman.”
Do
you do the exchange (if so, under what circumstances)?
If not, explain why. What
other options do you have? What do
you think is motivating this man’s actions?
