WEEK TWO
Discussion Board
Do the following exercise and
post your response on the discussion board. Make sure you tell me what topic you
discussed and specific phrases used in the exchange.
Using
Bolton’s ratings of word intensity (page 73), engage in a discussion with a
classmate or friend. Discuss
controversial topics (i.e., politics, religion, abortion, etc.).
Based on the words used by your partner, assess his or her emotional
involvement in these issues. Submit
a written response describing the topic and how emotionally involved your
subject was to the topic based on the words that were used. I have found it easier to record the conversation and then
play it back to search for key words. I’ve
also learned from experience not to discuss a topic that is too emotionally
charging with your significant other.

week we will discuss topics covered in the text. I want you to think about the answers to the following
questions:

We mentioned that sometimes a decision is made to, “go tactical.” Why
is it a bad idea to leave this decision up to the negotiator?
