David King has served as a law enforcement officer for the Whitfield county Sheriff’s Office for over seventeen years. The first three years of his tenure with the department were spent in the patrol division. Since 1990 he has served as an instructor with the department specializing in the areas of Drugs, Gangs, Hostage Negotiations, and Crisis Management. In 1995 he became the commander of the Hostage Negotiation Team for the department and has served in that capacity since that time. During his time as senior negotiator, Mr. King has received letters of commendation for “performing actions above and beyond the call of duty that resulted in the saving of a human life.”

Mr. King is an adjunct instructor for the United States Military, specializing in hostage negotiations at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He is also and adjunct instructor for Georgia Highlands Mental Health Facility where he teaches classes in dealing with suicidal persons and violence in the workplace. Over the years Mr. King has taught at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center on many occasions as well as at several of the regional police academies. He is a graduate of The National Crime Prevention Training Institute at the University of Louisville in Kentucky and The Florida Crime Prevention Training Institute in Tallahassee, Florida. Other advanced training includes Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Hostage Negotiations, Institute of Police Technology & Management, University of North Florida; Street Gangs Advanced Class, U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration; and Advanced Data Recovery and Analysis, U. S. Department of Justice National White Collar Crime Center.

Mr. King has earned an A.A. degree in English from Dalton State College. He also received a B.S. degree in Management from Covenant College. He is currently pursuing graduate studies.
